Hilton Columbus Downtown names executive chef; Alqueria owners to open Linworth restaurant

Argentine chef Sebastian La Rocca has been named executive chef of restaurants at Hilton Columbus Downtown, where he will run its three new dining concepts: the wood-burning grill at Fyr, the rooftop lounge Stories on High and Spark on the lobby level. Most recently, La Rocca has been the chef-owner of the Eat Gastro Group in Costa Rica. Chef La Rocca, who is relocating to Columbus for the opportunity, has worked alongside distinguished chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Michel Roux. La Rocca has also hosted the popular TV cooking show in Costa Rica, titled “Sabores,” which explores Latin American cuisine.
The owners of Alqueria Farmhouse Kitchen (247 King Ave.), Jacob Hough and Patrick Marker, are opening a second restaurant, named Subourbon Southern Kitchen & Spirits, later this month in Linworth. The low country-inspired restaurant replaces The Crafty Pint at 2234 W. Dublin Granville Road. Chef Odine Hong (previously of Hen Quarter and Harvest) has been tapped to lead the Subourbon kitchen. Hough and Marker, two alums of Barcelona in German Village, launched Alqueria in 2019; the following year it was named one of Columbus Monthly’s Best New Restaurants.
The locally owned macaron bakery Mjomii announced that its first storefront, Mjomii Dessert and Coffee House, is in the works. Construction is now underway in Carriage Place Plaza on Bethel Road. Founded by Calvin Kim and his wife, Sasha, in 2018, Mjomii started out as a home bakery specializing in Korean-style macarons, with flavors such as mango, salted caramel and taro cream. Mjomii Dessert and Coffee House, which is expected to open this fall, will offer a wider variety of macarons and macaron cakes as well as “a small selection of other desserts, and locally roasted coffee and tea-based beverages.”
A new Vietnamese restaurant called GC Pho recently opened at 1385 Georgesville Road on the city’s West Side. The casual eatery serves traditional Vietnamese fare such as spring rolls, pho, banh mi, vermicelli bowls, combination rice dishes and more.
Fukuryu Ramen has taken over the space previously occupied by Carfagna’s Kitchen at 2027 Polaris Parkway. Construction is currently underway. This makes three Central Ohio storefronts for Fukuryu, plus a ghost kitchen that serves the Downtown area. The popular ramen shop was founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2014 by Columbus native and Columbus Monthly Tastemaker Jeff Tsao. The first Central Ohio location made its debut in Upper Arlington in 2016.
Dante’s Pizza has reopened in Clintonville following a temporary closure to remodel its dining room. The pizzeria, which first opened in 1973, is located at 3586 Indianola Ave.
Habitat Young Professionals is hosting a putt-putt bar crawl to raise funds and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Putts & Pints kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Budd Dairy Food Hall (1086 N. Fourth St.). Other participating Italian Village businesses including Seventh Son and Zaftig Brew Pub.
