Rachel Lustig was voted by peer CEOs as a CEO of the Year 2019 finalist in the large nonprofit category.

Large nonprofit finalist: Rachel Lustig, president and CEO, Catholic Social Services

Rachel Lustig became president and CEO of Catholic Social Services in 2013. Over the past six years, she has worked to transform the agency by building on its legacy and bringing it into its strategic niche. Catholic Social Services is an anti-poverty agency whose goal is to empower people in need—regardless of faith or background—with the tools they need to reach their full potential. Under Lustig’s leadership, Catholic Social Services has responded to the rapidly growing senior population and has served 50 percent more of them by scaling the agency’s low-cost, high-impact programs through more effective technology solutions, volunteer engagement and partnerships. Lustig believes what Catholic Social Services does best is finding ways to help its clients use their own strengths and then leveraging the support of the entire community to reach those goals. To that end, she led the transformation of a food pantry serving primarily Hispanic families into the Our Lady of Guadalupe Center, which now provides holistic services to help one of Columbus’ fastest-growing immigrant communities break the cycle of poverty.
