Nationwide Children's senior researcher named 2021 Allen Distinguished Scholar
Lauren Bakaletz, director of the Center for Microbial Pathogenesis in the Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been named the 2021 Allen Distinguished Scholar in Pediatric Research. The award, in honor of former Nationwide Children’s CEO Steve Allen, is given to a senior researcher for scientific innovation in regard to childhood disease.
Bakaletz, also a professor of pediatrics and otolaryngology at The Ohio State University, has been funded for her research for over 25 years. Alongside her team, her research on otitis media, a middle ear infection, has led to 43 patents and two biotechnology startups.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has named Holly May to the role of chief human resources officer. In her new role, May will oversee the company’s global human resources strategy, which includes talent management and leadership development, diversity and inclusion, and other talent, organizational and culture building strategy.
Most recently, May served as senior vice president of global total rewards and service delivery at Starbucks, where she helped oversee the global compensation and benefits portfolio of the company. She also managed over 100 associates across several company teams.
Epcon Communities, a home developer based in Dublin, has named Rob McDonald as the corporate director of construction. In his new role, he will support the construction operations in the company’s four regions, as well as provide leadership to franchise builders.
McDonald steps into the role with 25 years of experience in construction roles. Most recently he served as the head of builder operations at Engel & Volkers in Austin, TX, where he oversaw a network of independent builders.
Assurex Global has named Christine Leggett to the role of partner success manager and Jennifer Bedeaux to the role of vice president of the employee benefits practice.
In her new role, Leggett will serve as a strategic advisor within partner firms to deliver digital strategy, innovations and marketing technology solutions and provide support as new programs and tools emerge. She has been with the company since 2015, most recently in the employee benefits department.
Bedeaux comes into the position with over a decade of experience in the employee benefits brokerage industry, most recently working for Shortlister, USI Insurance Services and Wells Fargo. In her new role, she will work with Assurex Global partners to help manage their employee benefits and deliver resources and tools.
Highlights has named Dennis Hupp to be the next senior vice president of retail. In his new role, Hupp will oversee the growth of the company in various retail channels, narrowing in on traditional and digital distribution and their commonalities.
Hupp steps into the position with over 25 years of experience in the retail marketing and merchandising industry. Most recently, he served as the chief commercial officer at Slingshot Coffee. He also has extensive experience working with consumer products and children’s entertainment companies, including Buena Vista Home Entertainment at the Walt Disney Company.
