How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Wednesday
U.S. stocks climbed again Wednesday as quarterly results from JPMorgan Chase gave banks a big lift. Economic news from China powered industrial and technology companies in the U.S. and stock exchanges overseas.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 187.03 points, or 1.1 percent, to 17,908.28.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 20.70 points, or 1 percent, to 2,082.42.
The Nasdaq composite index surged 75.33 points, or 1.6 percent, to 4,947.42.
For the week:
The Dow is up 331.32 points, or 1.9 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 34.82 points, or 1.7 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 96.73 points, or 2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 483.25 points, or 2.8 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 38.48 points, or 1.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 59.99 points, or 1.2 percent.
