How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Friday
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks rose Friday as health care companies recovered some of their recent losses and banks climbed. The market stretched its recent winning streak to its fifth week and wiped out most of its losses from the beginning of this year.
The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 120.81 points, or 0.7 percent, to 17,602.30.
The S&P 500 rose 8.99 points, or 0.4 percent, to 2,049.58.
The Nasdaq composite added 20.66 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,795.65.
For the week:
The Dow gained 388.99 points, or 2.3 percent.
The S&P 500 jumped 27.39 points, or 1.4 percent.
The Nasdaq picked up 47.18 points, or 1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 177.27 points, or 1 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 5.64 points, or 0.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 211.76 points, or 4.2 percent.
