Dutch royal couple on state visit to France

PARIS (AP) — King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands have arrived in France for a two-day state visit focusing on deepening economic and cultural ties.

Following a welcome ceremony at Paris' Arc de Triomphe, the king and queen met with French President at the Elysee Palace.

Later Thursday, they are to visit the Louvre to view Rembrandt's wedding portraits of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, purchased jointly by the Dutch and French governments for 160 million euros ($176 million). The portraits will be alternately displayed in Paris and Amsterdam.

The royal couple, accompanied by 10 business leaders, will attend an economic conference on Friday focusing on innovation and green technology and will visit center devoted to helping startup companies develop.
