How the Dow Jones industrial average fared on Thursday
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks made modest gains on Thursday as the market once again turned higher in the late afternoon. Energy stocks lead the way as investors continue to hope that oil prices have stabilized after almost two years of steep declines.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 44.58 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,943.90.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged up 6.95 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,993.40.
The Nasdaq composite index added 4 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,707.42.
For the week:
The Dow has picked up 303.93 points, or 1.8 percent.
The S&P 500 has risen 45.35 points, or 2.3 percent.
The Nasdaq has jumped 116.95 points, or 2.6 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 481.13 points, or 2.8 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 50.54 points, or 2.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 299.99 points, or 6 percent.
