Debris found in search for missing small plane in New York
NORTH SALEM, N.Y. (AP) — Debris has been found in the search for a small airplane that vanished while on approach to an airport in Connecticut.
New York State Police say debris believed to be from the missing 1971 Cessna was located Friday in the Titicus Reservoir in North Salem, in Westchester County.
They say the single-engine aircraft was on a landing approach when it lost radar contact with Danbury Airport at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
It wasn't immediately known how many people were on board.
Authorities say divers from the state police and the Department of Environmental Protection resumed searching the reservoir Friday morning. They had suspended the search at around 1 a.m. because of heavy fog.
Other agencies, including state police aviation, also are assisting in the search.
