LANSING, Mich. (AP) — A two-day law enforcement operation focusing on commercial vehicle crash reduction is taking place in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.

Michigan State Police say the areas targeted Tuesday and Wednesday include the Interstate 75 corridor in Michigan and Ohio and the I-70 corridor in Ohio and Indiana. The Ohio State Highway Patrol and Indiana State Police also are involved in the effort.

Officers will focus on violations by commercial vehicles and passenger vehicles traveling around commercial vehicles. They'll target violations that are likely to contribute to crashes, including speed, following too closely, improper passing and improper lane use.

Equipment violations such as faulty brakes and tires will be noted.

The effort is part of the Toward Zero Deaths traffic safety campaign, which seeks to reduce traffic deaths on freeways.
