Dividends are up

Dividends keep climbing, even in some unfamiliar corners. Bigger profits for businesses means more can pay dividends to their shareholders, and 563 companies increased their dividends or paid one for the first time last quarter. That means the U.S. stock market is on pace to pay out a record amount this year, according to S&P Dow Jones Indices.
