NEW YORK (AP) — Newspaper company Digital First Media is exploring its strategic options, which could include a sale of the company or parts of it.

The announcement comes as people are increasingly shifting to online sources to get their news.

Digital First Media was created in December through the merger of MediaNews Group and the former Journal Register Co. It's the second-biggest U.S. newspaper company by circulation and has 76 daily/Sunday newspapers and 160 weekly publications. The company's publications include the Los Angeles Daily News, the Denver Post and the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press.

There is no set schedule for when the review will be completed, the company said Friday.
