Stocks decline for a second day; Home Depot falls

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks are moving slightly lower in midday trading, putting the market on track for its second loss in a row.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell five points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,996 as of noon Eastern time Tuesday.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 62 points, or 0.4 percent, to 17,049. The Nasdaq composite fell 13 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,578.

Home Depot fell 1 percent after the company confirmed that its payment systems had been hacked, potentially exposing millions of shoppers who used credit and debit cards at its stores.

Apple rose 1 percent ahead of its latest product announcement.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.49 percent.
