NY judge dismisses suit over 'Deep Throat' film
NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge has tossed out a lawsuit that the copyright holders of "Deep Throat" brought against filmmakers who created a biography about porn star Linda Lovelace.
Judge Thomas Griesa dismissed it Monday after reviewing both films.
The lawsuit brought last year in federal court in Manhattan by Arrow Productions Limited against the Weinstein Co. claimed its copyrights and trademarks were violated by the 2013 film "Lovelace."
But the judge said the makers of the Hollywood film did not copy the core of "Deep Throat," which came out in 1972. He said "Deep Throat" is a pornographic film focusing on a specific sex act while "Lovelace" is a critical, biographical film.
An Arrow Productions lawyer said an appeal was being considered.
