Peet's to close Downtown, Gahanna coffee shops

Peet's Coffee and Tea plans to close two Columbus locations and five other stores in Ohio.
The Emeryville, Calif.-based coffee chain popped up across the Midwest and East Coast in 2013, with plans for 90 new locations. Some of them did not meet sales expectations.
"After nearly a one-year assessment of the Ohio and Michigan markets, we've decided to focus on our top-performing locations and reduce our scale in these areas," said Peet's spokeswoman Amy Lester.
Peet's will close stores at 1370 Hamilton Rd. in Gahanna and at 41 S. High St. Downtown on Aug. 3. Locations on N. High Street in Clintonville and in Upper Arlington will remain open. The brand's packaged coffee also will remain available at almost 100 retail outlets in the region.
Other Peet's locations closing in Ohio are in the Dayton and Cleveland areas. The chain plans to also shut seven stores in Michigan. The closings will affect 160 workers.
