How the Dow Jones industrial average did Friday
Stocks fell Friday as a surprisingly strong report on job gains failed to impress investors. Corporate earnings reports were mixed and news of fighting in eastern Ukraine weighed on stocks.
On Friday:
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 45.98 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,512.89.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 2.54 points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,881.14.
The Nasdaq composite fell 3.55 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,123.90.
For the week:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 151.43 points, or 0.9 percent.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 17.74 points, or 1 percent.
The Nasdaq composite rose 48.34 points, or 1.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 63.77 points, or 0.4 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 32.78 points, or 1.8 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is down 52.69 points, or 1.3 percent.
