Medical device manufacturer to grow by 25 percent
A global medical device company plans to create more than a dozen new jobs at its Fairborn manufacturing facility in the coming year, company officials announced.
NuVasive Manufacturing LLC will expand its work force by more than 25 percent over the course of 2014, officials said. The spine implant manufacturer at 1 Herald Square in Fairborn currently employs more than 70 people.
The 35,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, formerly known as ANC LLC, was acquired in May by San Diego-based NuVasive Inc. for about $4.5 million. The plant currently produces NuVasive’s PEEK, Armada and Precept implants.
Officials said NuVasive’s skilled Dayton-area work force will be integral to the firm’s intiative to reduce the time from a product’s conception to market introduction.
“NuVasive Manufacturing is vital to our market share taking strategy, and our drive to reduce product cost and improve operating profitability,” said Alex Lukianov, NuVasive’s chairman and chief executive, in a statement.
NuVasive plans to hire for local positions ranging from skilled workers to senior management. Current openings at the Fairborn facility include machinists, technicians, a staff accountant and senior managers, according to the company’s career website.
Founded in 1997, NuVasive is the fourth largest company in the $8.2 billion global spine market.
NuVasive is focused on developing minimally disruptive surgical products and procedures for the spine, officials said.
The publicly traded company posted a $7.5 million profit on sales of $169.2 million for the third quarter of 2013 — a 14 percent increase over the same period last year, according to company documents.
NuVasive had revenue of about $620.3 million for 2012 and employs more than 1,500 people globally.
