Office supplier moves from city to Springfield Twp.
Business Equipment Company, a locally-owned provider of office solutions, is moving its corporate office and distribution center from its downtown location to a new office in Springfield Twp.
The company’s corporate office, currently at 100 W. North St., is moving to the former Midwest Safety Products building at 3783 W. National Road. The new office is expected to open Monday.
Lindeman sold the building in 2007 and has been renting the space ever since. He said he was ready to update his showroom and decided to purchase the building on U.S. 40.
“We felt it was a good business investment opportunity,” Lindeman said.
He said the move has been in the works for the last six months.
The company was founded by his father on Olive Street in Springfield in 1970 and has been located on North Street since 1996.
He said most of his customers make an appointments to view supplies.
“It’s just not a walk-in type business as much as it used to be,” Lindeman said.
He’s been surprised by the amount of traffic at the new location in recent weeks.
The company sent a letter to customers announcing the move to its new location.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure that this move does not pose any inconvenience to our customers,” Lindeman wrote in the letter.
Phone numbers are e-mail addresses will not change, but the company will have new fax numbers.
The company offers service and support for digital imaging devices such as copiers and multifunction printers, office machine supplies, office furniture, document management and re-manufactured printer cartridges.
BEC supplies several corporate and local clients such as the Playtex Corporation, Mercy Health Partners of Western Ohio, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Honda of America. Several school districts and local governments — including Springfield City Schools and the cities of Fairborn and Vandalia — are also BEC customers, according to the company’s website.
The company’s corporate partners include Panasonic, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox and La-Z-Boy.
The new location gives the company “good access” to Interstate 70, Lindeman said.
City manager Jim Bodenmiller said he was unaware of the company’s departure as of Thursday morning.
“You never like to hear about a business moving from out of town, but it’s possible it will create some possibilities for us with the facility,” Bodenmiller said.
The total value of the 27,000-square-foot facility at West North Street is approximately $417,000, according to the Clark County Auditor’s website.
An office equipment inventory reduction auction will take place at the North Street location at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 4. A preview will be held on Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Items available include copy machines, desks and chairs, file cabinets and metal shelving among others. For more information, call 937-323-6545.
