Two cooperatives discussing joint venture in Wood County
BRADNER -- Luckey Farmers Cooperative and Sunrise Cooperative have begun discussions about a joint venture to develop a grain and agronomy hub in Wood County near Ohio 6 and U.S. 23, a few miles west of Interstate 75 near Bradner.
The new hub would have access to the CSX main rail line.
All of Luckey Farmers' grain-handling facilities are in locations where grain must be trucked to other terminals. According to Luckey Farmers, the new hub would allow farmers better access to other markets for selling their grain and for receiving agronomy supplies.
Luckey Farmers previously discussed a merger with Blanchard Valley Farmers Cooperative, but talks broke off in 2012. Then members of Blanchard Valley Farmers and Deshler Farmers Elevator Co. approved a merger in July. That new cooperative will begin operations in March as Legacy Farmers Cooperative.
