How the Dow Jones industrial average did Thursday
Major U.S. indexes rose to all-time highs for the second day in a row Thursday, but the gains were driven by stocks that investors tend to buy when they want to avoid risk, such as power companies, banks and drug makers.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 54.59 points, or 0.4 percent, to close at 15,876.22.
The S&P 500 index rose 8.62 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,790.62.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 7.16 points, 0.2 percent, to 3,972.74.

The Dow is up 114.44 points, or 0.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 20.01 points, or 1.1 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 53.51 points, or 1.4 percent

The Dow is up 2,772.08 points, or 21.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 364.43 points, or 25.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 953.23 points, or 31.57 percent.
