The building that housed the historic Peerless Mill restaurant in Miamisburg will spring back to life Friday.

The Star City Brewing Company, 319 S. Second St., hosted a “soft opening” last weekend and is poised to host its grand opening from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15. The new brewery will be open from 1 to 10 p.m. the following day on Saturday, Nov. 16.

The soft opening “went well,” said co-founder Brian Yavorsky, and Star City will offer four brews on tap for its grand opening: Oatmeal Stout, Bavarian Hefe, Blonde Ale, and IPA.

After this weekend’s grand opening, Star City’s hours will be 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday. “We may extend the hours as needed, but those will be the hours at the start,” Yavorsky said.

Miamisburg officials were pleased when the brewpub project was announced earlier this year, saying the 14,000-square-foot building that housed the former Peerless Mill had become a target for vandals and was in danger of becoming an eyesore. The Peerless Mill served meals to generations of Miami Valley residents, operating for nearly eight decades at at 319 S. Second St. before closing in 2008.

Miamisburg natives Brian and Justin Kohnen, along with Yavorsky, bought the former Peerless Mill from Paul Music, a real estate broker for Big Valley Realty in Springboro, who had purchased the historic former restaurant at 319 S. Second St. in late 2011 and announced plans to restore the facility and reopen it as the Peerless Mill restaurant. Those plans stalled, however, and Music told the Dayton Daily News in August 2012 that the condition of the building was worse than first thought.

Star City Brewing is one of 14 brewery or brewpub projects either open or in development in the Dayton area, including the Lucky Star Brewery, located a block away at 219 S. Second St. in Miamisburg. Kettering brewery Eudora Brewing Company is also scheduled to open this Friday.
