Conn. police: Cable outage not worthy of 911 call

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — When a cable television outage hit Connecticut shoreline communities during prime time Sunday night viewing, viewers jumped to action.

Some residents reached out to their state senator. Others called police.

A Fairfield police spokeswoman says one caller used 911, while others used routine lines.

A message on the department's Facebook page says such an outage is "neither an emergency or a police-related concern." The post warns that 911 should be used for life-threatening emergencies only and misuse of the 911 system may result in an arrest.

Cablevision says in a statement that there was a commercial power failure in its Norwalk facility. It says "the power matter has been resolved and service has been restored to our customers."
