RUSHVILLE, IL — Oliver Philip "Phil" Heaton, 75, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, in Aledo Health Care Center in Aledo, IL.
He was born July 15, 1942, in Oakland Twp., Schuyler County, IL, a son of the late Amos Clyde and Frederica Phillips Heaton.
He is survived by two brothers, Dick Heaton of Rushville and Meredith (Lokey) of Farmington, NM; a sister, Rosie Bainter of Macomb, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shannon Heaton; a brother, Bud Heaton; and a sister, Audrey McHenry.
He was a Green Beret and served with the 82nd Airbourne in the Dominican Republic conflict. He was a life-long farmer. He also worked as an electrician for the Central Coal Co. in Cumberland, Ohio, and later was an electrician at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He was a member of the Vermont American Legion Post 26 and Rushville Moose Lodge 506. Phil loved horses, built houses and was a family man.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the Worthington Funeral Home with David Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the Chockley Funeral Home near Industry, IL. Military honors will be provided by Schuyler American Legion Post 4 and a U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16. Memorials may be given to Vermont American Legion Post 26.
