The Portage County Amateur Radio Service, Inc. will offer a class for anyone interested in obtaining the basic Amateur Radio License (Technician Class). The course will begin on Wednesday and run weekly. The final night of class is Nov. 7, at which time the licensing exam will be given. The class will be taught by several members of the club who among them have extensive experience in the hobby of Amateur Radio and it will be held at the PCARS club site, located at 705 Oakwood St., Ravenna. The classes will begin at 7 p.m. and run for about 1 ½ to 2 hours.

The cost of the class is $25 and there is a required textbook that costs $29.95. At the end of the class there is a $15 fee to sit for the exam. This is an "entry level" class, so everything necessary to pass the test will be covered in the class.

The Amateur Radio Service, sometimes referred to as "Ham Radio" is a licensed radio service where licensees can participate in 2-way radio communications with other hams both locally and internationally.
