NEW LONDON — New council member Jennifer Ball was sworn in to replace Neil Winslow at Monday’s meeting.

Retiring fire department volunteer Dan Bailey was honored for his nearly 40 years of service. Fire Chief John Chapin presented Bailey with a fire hat and promoted him from captain to assistant chief. Chapin told him, "I hate to see you go. I can’t say thanks enough for what you have done for the fire department and the community."

Bailey, who also received a plaque from the mayor, thanked everyone and said he was happy to have been of service.

Administrator Shawn Pickworth started his report by stating, "We have received a lot of calls, customers coming to our office and even hate mail from customers about not receiving their utility bills on time."

Saying the bills were mailed on time, he suggested anyone with a complaint should, "call your local postmaster and ask why." He also said bills are available at village hall or on line, and arrangements can be made to have them texted or emailed.

Pickworth added he is confident the village will receive CDBG funding for three projects, the city parking lot, Johnson Dr. and Pearl St. Also, he plans to apply for a Critical Infrastructure Grant to be used to improve New London Ave. and West Washburn St.
