NEW CONCORD — The deadline to sign up for LMIS Soccer Skills Spring Kicks Academy will be Friday, April 13, with practice slated to begin on Monday, April 16, after school from 3:45 to 5 p.m. Practice will be at the soccer practice field at Larry Miller Intermediate School.

Additional sessions will be on the successive Mondays through May 7 (as well as a make-up day).

The cost is $35 per player.

The training program will be guided by Muskingum University's assistant women's soccer coach, Hannah Brindle. A native of England, Brindle was a Division II collegiate soccer player.

The academy will focus on boys and girls in grades three through five (ages 9 to 11) which are prime developmental years for learning the fundamentals and proper coordination.

Players will work on foot skills, including dribbling, passing, receiving and shooting as well as coordination and agility. In small groups, the academy staff, including Muskingum women's soccer players, will demonstrate proper techniques and will guide players as they develop their own individual skills. The players will then apply those techniques in small-sided game situations.

All players must bring a size 4 soccer bottle and drinking water. Soccer cleats are recommended but tennis shoes are acceptable; football and baseball cleats are not.
