Rib Ticklers Plus 2 at Myers Memorial Band Shell - The name comes from the group’s longtime tenure as the Dixieland house band at Adam’s Rib restaurant in Mansfield. Members have changed over the years, but the tradition of excellent musicians and an entertaining stage presence remains. Styles include Dixieland, swing, Latin, waltzes and music from the ‘50s through the ‘70s. See the band at 8 p.m.


Aug. 10

Fun Friday - The United Way of Ashland County will host this Fun Friday, featuring Akron Zoo animals and Touch-A-Truck from 11:45 a.m.–1:15 p.m. at Corner Park. Lunch is sponsored by Donna D’s Family Pizza, Besta Fasta Pizza and KD Pizza. If raining, the event will be held at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.

Sundown Sounds at PNC Park - This week’s featured musician is Tom's Kitchen Table, who will perform at 6 p.m. at PNC Park at the corner of Main Street and Orange Street.

Ghost Walk & Haunted History Tour - Take a trip back in time to the 1830s as you embark on a one-hour guided haunted history tour of Heyd Cemetery at 8:30 p.m. at Landoll’s Mohican Castle. Learn about the early pioneers of the castle property and the mischievous things they do to the current visitors. During the last 15 minutes of the tour, you will attempt to communicate with the spirits that call Landoll's Mohican Castle Home. Please arrive at the castle lobby 10 minutes early. If the event gets cancelled due to weather, you will be given a rain check to attend another ghost walk. A limited number of tickets are available at $25 each. Buy online at or call 419-994-3427 ext. 0.

Arts Alive 2018 - Arts Alive is a performing arts day camp for creative kids ages 8-13. Under the direction of founder Sally Hollenbach and a team of helpers, the kids learn the basics in drama, music, stage movement and putting together their own show. See the kids’ performance at Art Alive 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Ohio Theatre. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students ages 5-18 and free for ages 4 and under.

Opera in the Park - A concert tour of Giuseppe Verdi’s "Un Ballo in Maschera" will make two stops in Mansfield this summer. To be performed by professional musicians from all over the U.S., and a chorus of local singers, this three-act opera is open to the public and will take place at 7 p.m. tonight at Liberty Park and at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Kingwood Gardens. A tragedy, Un Ballo’s arias tell stories of political conspiracy, love, friendship and betrayal. The tour also includes stops in Worthington and Wooster on August 12 and 17, respectively. Bring your own chairs or blankets and snacks and drinks. Tickets are not required to see these live performances; however, the August 19 concert will require a $5 per vehicle entrance fee to Kingwood Gardens.

Community Fellowship Health Walk at Gorman Nature Center - The Saturday morning Health Walks are for anyone wanting to improve their mental and physical well-being, meet new people or just enjoy the outdoors. All are welcome. The walk begins at 8:15 a.m. and lasts for about one hour. In the event of rain, they will meet at the YMCA of Ashland, 207 Miller Street.

Farmers Market at Christ United Methodist Church - Every Saturday from 9-11 a.m., Christ United Methodist Church will hold a farmers market in the parking lot with area vendors.

Fishing & Geocaching - Bring your fishing gear, pack a lunch and enjoy a day of fishing and geocaching, hosted by the Hillsdale Cub Scouts Pack 702, at 10 a.m.

Veterans Appreciation Day - The fifth annual Veterans Appreciation Day will be held at the Ashland County Airport, starting at 11 a.m. The opening ceremony is at noon, with the flag raising. From 1-3 p.m., enjoy a complimentary cookout, which is open to the public. Ken Hammontree will portray General Douglas MacArthur at 1:15 p.m., the Kroc Center Dixieland Band will perform at 2 p.m., Greg Thompson will present "Down Home" comedy at 3:30 p.m., and a USO-style variety show will take place between 4:30-6:30 p.m. Departure, a Journey tribute band, will perform at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks will start at 9:30 p.m.

Wooster Festa Italiana 2018 - Enjoy Italian heritage, food, local artists and crafts, games, concerts and more, as Wooster celebrates the Italian presence in the city and Wayne County, which dates back to the second half of the 19th century, starting at 11 a.m. in downtown Wooster.

Lincoln Highway Car Show - The 12th Annual Lincoln Highway Car Show at UH Samaritan on Main, sponsored by the Ashland Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, runs from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the UH Samaritan on Main property, 663 E. Main St. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon. Car owners will be charged $5 per vehicle. There will be four classes: Car, Rod, Truck and featured Chevy trucks of all makes and models. Chevy trucks, from 1992 and older, will be admitted free. Car show participants will vote on their favorites and the awards ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. There will be dash plaques and goody bags for the first 100 cars. Awards will include: one best of each class, one best of show and four plaques for each class. A DJ will provide entertainment throughout the event. Food will be available for purchase.

Laws of Physics Car Show - This show is brought to you by Xtreme Gravity at the Ashland County Fairgrounds, packing a car show with tons of activities to keep you busy through the weekend, along with the hottest cars, trucks, motorcycles and more from Ohio and a number of other states. The show focuses on getting all types of automobiles to one show, for all to enjoy. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society's Race for a Cure program and the Ashland County Food Drive. Both days the organization will have raffle items, door prizes and more. If you get hungry at any point, food vendors will be offering scrumptious dishes, or you can compete in our Hot Dog Eating Contest, fighting for the "Wiener King" award. The entry fee is $20 for show entry only, with an additional $10 per day for primitive camping or an additional $20 per day for a full hookup campsite. DJ & Karaoke at Pleasant Hill Lake Park - Bring your chairs and blankets to the Welcome Center Deck to enjoy live music while overlooking Pleasant Hill Lake. Concerts are open to the public. The gate fee is $5 per car.

Loudonville's Got Talent Fund Raising Event - Come to the Ohio Theatre for the 2nd Annual Loudonville's Got Talent Fund Raising Event, to help raise money for the expanding programming and educational opportunities at The Ohio Theatre. Golf Outing - The 7th Annual Michael L. Runyan Memorial golf outing will be held at the Ashland Golf Club, with registration starting at 8 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Visit for more information. 

Paws in the Park Pawty - From noon until 4 p.m., the Wayne County Humane Society will host the Fifth Annual Dog Swim and Dog Walk, benefiting the Wayne County Humane Society Family and Fur friendly event for dogs and their humans to swim and hike with free chicken dinners to the first 200 participants in Freedlander Park. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. The day includes dog water-games, a professional photographer, blessing of your pet and a disc jockey to keep the pawty going. Proof of current rabies vaccination and 2018 dog license is required. Blues & BBQ - Join Wayne County Habitat for Humanity for a lively night of barbecue and music at TJ’s Trio of Restaurants in Wooster. The evening benefits Habitat for Humanity. Music will be provided by Eric Fairhurst and Standard Time with a 50/50 raffle, reverse raffle and a short live auction during the event. Farmers Market at City Lot B - Find all the fresh produce, baked goods and hand-crafted items you need at the weekly Downtown Ashland Farmers Market. The market is open every Wednesday from 3-5 p.m. The market is in Lot B, next to the city income tax building.


Brookside Golf Course is holding Ashland YMCA’s first golf outing on Aug. 18. Registration is at 8 a.m. with the shotgun start at 9 a.m. Team pricing is $260. You get 18 holes, a cart, lunch at the turn and dinner at O’Bryan’s following your round. There will be prizes for the top three teams, as well as for long drive, closest to the pin and long putt. The Women's Wellness Workshop at Park Street Brethren Church on Aug. 18 from 5-8 p.m. is designed to educate women on several options of fitness resources, exercises and food choices that lead to a healthier lifestyle. Hospice of North Central Ohio is gearing up for its Ninth Annual Community Corn Roast on Aug. 25. While some of the aspects of this fundraising event are well-established traditions, others are changing with this year’s event. The location is the most important change. The Corn Roast will take place from 4-7 p.m. at the Eagles Club at 400 Eastlake Drive. Enjoy smoked pork and corn, live music and more, while helping Hospice raise money to support patients, their families and anyone in our community experiencing grief. Tickets must be purchased this year — you may buy tickets online or at the door. The $20 adult ticket includes food, live music, and one raffle chance — you could win two round-trip flights to anywhere in the country. Tickets for children, ages 4-12, are $10. Children under the age of 4 are admitted free. The traditional pie auction will take place at 5:30 p.m.
