Columbus Food Adventures recently launched a new restaurant tour called Alt Eats II, expanding on its original Alt Eats tour that explores global cuisines. (Co-founder Bethia Woolf is a Columbus Monthly contributor.) The new culinary bus tour takes visitors to hidden gems along Bethel and Henderson roads, with an emphasis on Asian fare. Pending construction, SOW Plated, a new health-conscious restaurant and wellness concept, plans to open its doors Tuesday, July 9, at the Shops on Lane (1625 W. Lane Ave.) in Upper Arlington. SOW’s founders are John Fahlgren (of the Columbus-based advertising agency Fahlgren Mortine) and his wife, Sunny. The new concept will feature a plant-forward menu, health seminars, yoga and more.

Donna’s Delicious Dozen, a new shop offering made-to-order cake doughnuts, opened Wednesday at 5322 N. Hamilton Road near New Albany.

Chicken Salad Chick will hold its grand opening on Wednesday, June 12, at 687 Worthington Road. The Westerville/Polaris area location is the first in Ohio for the fast-casual chicken salad restaurant, which was founded in Auburn, Alabama, in 2008. On opening day, the first 125 guests will receive free chicken salad for a year.

A new brewery and taproom called Eldridge & Fiske Brewing Co. opened recently in Lithopolis at 9 E. Columbus St. Dave Eldridge, a former brewmaster at Columbus Brewing Co., and Tim Fiske are the owners. The taproom offers a wide range of beer styles, including a raspberry-pomegranate kolsch, nitro stout and 16-percent brown ale.

Following her breakout on this season's “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Nina “Miss Congeniality” West is collaborating with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams on a new ice cream flavor, an online ice cream collection and T-shirt for Pride Month. Dream Puff, a salty vanilla custard ice cream swirled with pastry flakes and strawberry sauce, is available at Jeni’s scoop shops nationwide. In addition, the Nina West Pride Collection, featuring four of Nina’s favorite flavors, is now available online. All profits from the collection will be donated to The Nina West Foundation.

Also for Pride Month, Condado Tacos is partnering with The Trevor Project for its bi-monthly Drink of the Month program. During June, $1 from each Pink Pride Frozen Margarita will go towards the nonprofit. The Trevor Project provides crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ youth.

Sad news this week from the Central Ohio brewing community. Patrick Gangwer, head brewer of Three Tigers Brewing Co. in Granville, died Monday after a battle with cancer. A wake will take place Sunday, June 9, at Granville’s Snapshots Lounge (1320 Weaver Dr.).


Wake Up with the Commons, a new breakfast-themed food truck court, kicked off this week at Columbus Commons (160 S. High St.). From 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday in June, three food trucks—Buckeye Donuts, Crimson Cup Food Truck and Nate’s Steamed Bagels—will be open for early risers.
