Harvest Pizzeria’s original location in German Village will serve its last wood-fired pizza on Saturday, April 27. Harvest founder and Grow Restaurants’ CEO Chris Crader made the announcement today in an email. After opening in July 2011 at 495 S. Fourth St., Harvest’s quaint pizzeria immediately won over Columbus with its chewy, wood-kissed pizzas and emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. The brand quickly began to scale and has since grown to five locations, including one in Cincinnati.

“As our flagship and original location, Harvest Pizzeria in German Village has been a place of birth and growth for our company. Sadly, we must now announce that our German Village restaurant will open its doors for the last time on Saturday, April 27th. Despite the success of Harvest in German Village and our strong ties to the neighborhood, the owner of the property will not honor our renewal of the lease,” Crader said in the statement. He praised the German Village community for its support, stating that he hopes Harvest will “return to German Village if and when we find the right space.” According to the Franklin County Auditor, Rosemarie Keidel, the former owner of Juergen’s Bakery, owns the property.

Openings & Announcements

Columbus Brewing Co., the city’s oldest and largest brewery, announced that it’s finally opening a taproom. The new addition to the brewery at 2555 Harrison Rd. is expected to open this summer.

The Michigan-based restaurant Neehee’s opened this week at 6080 Sawmill Rd. in Dublin. The fast-casual franchise specializes in vegetarian Indian street food. Menu items include samosas, dosas, chaat, pakodas (vegetable fritters) and other regional Indian dishes. This is the first Neehee’s location in Ohio.

Cleveland-based Forward Hospitality Group is teaming up with James Beard award-winning chef Jonathon Sawyer on a new concept opening at 906 N. High St., formerly home to RAM Restaurant & Brewery in the Short North. Details are still slim on what kind of establishment the two Cleveland groups are opening. Read more here.

The former Actual Brewing taproom in Clintonville may have a new tenant. The Columbus Dispatch reports that George Tanchevski, who owns Local Cantina and South Village Grille, is expected to purchase all of Actual’s assets at 2808 N. High St., and has been approved for a lease by the landlord. The taproom closed in February, just a month after opening and days after Alive broke news of allegations of sexual assault by Actual founder Fred Lee.

Buckeye Chili & Smokehouse is now open Downtown on the ground floor of the Capital Plaza Garage at 30 S. Young St., formerly Hungry Soul Cafe.

The owners of Graze Columbus recently launched a sister concept called Glazed Churro Bar, a food truck selling churro sundaes as well as lunch items like taco cones.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Taquero Mad Street Food and the Columbus Commons carousel open for the season starting Monday, April 22. Taquero (Tortilla’s new name for its brick-and-mortar locations) will be offering free tortilla chips and aguas frescas with any purchase.

Last week, Brassica opened a location in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, the brand’s first location outside Central Ohio. The Mediterranean fast-casual spot is owned by Northstar Cafe owners Katy and Kevin Malhame and Darren Malhame, Kevin’s brother.

Odds & Ends

The Old Spot, the forthcoming restaurant from The Butcher & Grocer and restaurateurs Rick and Krista Lopez, has hired chef Chris Furr to lead its culinary team. Furr’s resume includes positions with Grow Restaurants and Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.
