LOS ANGELES (AP) Southern California Gas Co. officials say they've pinpointed the location of a leak that has been spewing noxious odors into an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood for weeks.

The utility company said Sunday it has finally found the precise well, out of more than 100, that is responsible for the odor emanating from a mountaintop above LA's Porter Ranch neighborhood.

The smell has forced more than 2,000 families from their homes. Residents say it caused nosebleeds, nausea and headaches.

Gas company officials are drilling a relief well in the area that they plan to eventually connect to the leaking well to plug it. But they say that work might not be completed until March.

In the meantime, they're finding temporary housing for displaced families.

The well began leaking Oct. 23.
