NEW YORK (AP) — Retailers are leading stocks higher at midday, putting the market on track for another strong month.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 43 points to 16,140 in midday trading Friday. The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained four points to 1,811. The Nasdaq rose 22 points to 4,067.
Retailers are among the leading gainers on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.
Investors are following sales trends closely to get a read on the health of retailers, and the wider economy.
The stock market closes Friday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time, the last trading day of the month. November is typically strong for the stock market. This year is no exception. The S&P 500 has gained 3.2 percent, the ninth month in 2013 that the index has advanced.
