TOKYO (AP) — Nintendo says first half profit totaled 600 million yen ($6.1 million) as sales of its Wii U game console continued to languish.
The company didn't break out quarterly figures but it's likely it made a loss in the July-September quarter as the previous quarter's result was an 8.6 billion yen profit.
The Kyoto-based maker of the Pokemon and Super Mario games reported sales Wednesday of 196.6 billion yen ($2 billion) for the six months ended Sept. 30. That's a 2.2 percent drop from the same period last year.
Nintendo Co. said Wii U sales totaled only 460,000 units in the first half. That's far short of the company's goal of 9 million units for the year, though sales are likely to pick up over the year-end holiday season.
