The most recent renovation project is in Miamisburg, where the Columbus-based fast-food chain will redesign and remodel its franchise-owned restaurant at 220 S. Heincke Road as part of a broader “brand transformation” that includes a new logo, signage, menu boards and crew uniforms, according to Kitty Munger, communications director for Wendy’s.
The Miamisburg Planning Commission approved the plans Monday, according to City Planner Jo Scott.
The Wendy’s — on the east side of Heincke Road south of Ohio 725 — was built in 1995. The remodeling plan calls for minor renovation inside the restaurant and new signage outside; the most significant change will be the relocation of entrance doors on the north and south sides of the building, according to Miamisburg planning commission documents.
Wendy’s is moving forward with remodels for 100 company-owned restaurants and 100 franchised locations, and appears to be getting a swift return on that investment: Last year, Wendy’s saw an average increase of more than 25 percent in the average unit sales volumes of store prototypes opened in 2011, according to Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN). The company said its goal is to remodel 50 percent of company-owned restaurants in North America by the end of 2015, NRN reported.
The prototype features digital menu boards and signage, flat-screen TVs, fireplaces and a Wi-Fi bar to promote more time spent in the dining rooms.
The new Wendy’s logo still includes a portrait of redheaded Wendy Thomas, daughter of founder Dave Thomas. The chain’s branding overhaul also includes new packaging and new crew uniforms.
“We’re transforming our brand, from bold restaurant designs to innovative food that consumers want, to improved customer service,” Wendy’s chief executive Emil Brolick said in a statement earlier this year. “This exciting evolution of our brand reinforces our mission to position Wendy’s as ‘a cut above.’”
Wendy’s, based in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, operates 6,500 restaurants worldwide.
