Jim Lorimer has always believed in the power of personal fitness: It builds character in individuals and, collectively, in the organizations, nations and companies they represent. Lorimer has always shared that tent with his friend and business partner, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"He's been my partner for a long time," says Lorimer, 88, and a daily exerciser. The two met while both were pursuing their own sporting goals-Schwarzenegger competing as a bodybuilder in Lorimer's fledgling bodybuilding contest in Columbus. The former FBI special agent and the governor-slash-action-hero have worked together on many fitness initiatives, including the President's Council on Physical Fitness during the first Bush administration. Lorimer says that the state-by-state advocacy for fitness was what first piqued Schwarzenegger's interest in politics.

They partnered to establish the city's signature Arnold Sports Festival. Now in its 27th year, the nation's largest sports festival takes place March 5 through 8 in dual locations (the Columbus Convention Center and the Ohio Expo Center), with free shuttles between.

Demolition of the festival's original home at Veterans' Memorial prompted the partners to secure space at the expo center, giving Lorimer and Schwarzenegger room to accommodate continued growth, says Lorimer.

As it is, the weekend festival is expected to draw 175,000 attendees who will fill 100 hotels in Columbus. The 900 available booths in the festival's Fitness Expo have been sold out since December.
