As the year dawned, central Ohio business leaders were looking forward to a productive and collaborative relationship with new Mayor Andrew Ginther. Just six months into a four-year term, the mayor is off to a great start with construction booming and the city beating out 77 other applicants for $50 million in federal and private grants to model transportation for the future.

Capital Crossroads & Discovery Special Improvement Districts and the Columbus Metropolitan Library will share a midyear report over coffee on July 26. If you haven't already experienced the remodeled Main Library, this is a great opportunity to hear both about Downtown development as well as the considerable economic impact of local libraries from CML CEO Patrick Losinksi.

This year adds Ohio to the growing number of states allowing medicinal use of marijuana. Interested in that new marketplace? The Ohio Cannabis Industry Conference is set for Thursday, sponsored by Dickinson Wright.

City Barbeque will look back on 2016 as the year it started growing with a new private equity partner. Since 1999, founder Rick Malir has grown his concept to 26 company-owned and two legacy franchise restaurants in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and North Carolina. The partnership with Freeman Spogli & Co. will allow it to expand to new markets.
