ASAE Annual Meeting 2019 was held in various locations in Columbus and included a John Legend concert, out-of-towers making murals for the Reeb Avenue Center and a whole lot of health care executives.

They say if a city can attract the annual meeting of the American Society of Association Executives, which is essentially the association for associations, up to $500 million in visitor spending could be coming its way in the next five-10 years. It's called "The Superbowl of Meetings" in the convention trade.

Experience Columbus CEO Brian Ross and his crew spent years to get ASAE here, including a helicopter tour of the city, and the efforts were a success. The Aug. 10-13 annual meeting drew about 5,500 visitors, about a third of whom were affiliated with health care associations, according to the Columbus Dispatch. That's a lot of medical executives to potentially do business with.

The city rolled out the red carpet with a John Legend concert, organized volunteer activities, a showcase of local food, fashion and music pairings and nearly 20 headlines in the daily newspaper, including an editorial, letters to the editor and stories claiming to reveal the "real" Columbus list of things to see and do. I kind of did that same thing, in case you care to know what Karaoke for Cats could do for this town.
