Projections indicate that Columbus will come up far short in meeting housing demand in the coming years if residential development doesn’t pick up. Recent research from Vogt Strategic Insights—commissioned by the Building Industry Association of Central Ohio—shows that the region needs a new residential unit for every new job created. Based on that formula, central Ohio will require about 17,000 new housing units annually over the next 10 years, more than twice its current building rate of about 8,000 per year.
