When's the last time—or the first time?—you took a packed suitcase to a charity fundraiser?

You’ll want to be ready to fly away at the Oct. 6 Hope Takes Flight charity event benefitting the Homeless Families Foundation. Winners of the NetJets Experience raffle will leave immediately on a private jet to New York City for a weekend getaway for two in five-star hotel, including a pair of Broadway’s hottest tickets on Saturday to see Hamilton. Support from Nationwide and other leading Columbus companies ensures a fun night even if you don’t win the raffle.

Tech companies in the financial services sector are also taking off. Columbus’ Fintech71, a nonprofit startup accelerator and innovator, attracted 250 applicants for its first class of 10 companies for a 10-week program to speed access to top financial and insurance companies. Class members will land a $100,000 investment and six months of free office space in new Downtown digs.

Check out Fintech71’s new home at Insurtech Columbus, a free networking and educational event on Sept. 6 to explore trends in insurance, technology and investing. Sponsors include insurance tech firm Bold Penguin. Register online to attend.

Entrepreneurs not in the finance sector might need help with budgeting and strategic planning to get their creative concepts on firm footing. The Columbus College of Art & Design is offering Money Matters for Creative Entrepreneurs, online classes with distance learning company Kadenze. Beginning Tuesday (Aug. 8), the first four sessions are free; the fee for all 12 is $900.

Smart Columbus is a major driver of tech developments in central Ohio. Learn more at the next Columbus Chamber Government Spotlight: Smart Columbus and its Impact on Future Policymaking, on Aug. 15 at the Athletic Club of Columbus.

Here are some other events to check out later this month:

The 12th annual Ohio Employee Health & Wellness Conference sponsored by the Manufacturers’ Education Council. Many employers agree a healthy workplace is important. Several kinds of continuing education credits will be available for attendees of the Aug. 22 event.

Young professionals with the Association for Corporate Growth, ACG Columbus, will Spike for the Cause in an Aug. 23 charity volleyball tournament benefiting the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

Meet the new food makers and network with free refreshments at the grand opening of 1400 Food Lab, formerly The Commissary, on Aug. 24.
