The CEO of Manifest Solutions gives everyone in the company a personalized Christmas gift. It is Nancy Matijasich's way of thanking employees and letting them know she values their contributions to the information systems consulting firm. Past gifts have included guitar lessons for a musically-inclined employee and gift cards to associates' favorite restaurants.

It's one of the benefits of working for a company that really focuses on how it treats its employees, says Doug Deken, director of operations and sales for the company headquartered in Upper Arlington. "It's really a matter of asking, 'Are you happy here?' 'Are we doing enough?'"

Manifest Solutions also offers paid vacation, paid training events, profit-sharing and medical benefits. The company even provides "an opportunity to earn, flexibility (and a) positive ethical environment," according to a Manifest Solutions employee who participated in Columbus CEO's 2016 Top Workplaces survey.

Another employee praised executives for making employees feel valued. "The leaders of this company care about each employee's success individually. I know that I have a support team at Manifest," the employee wrote in the anonymous comments section of the survey.

Employees consider their pay and benefits when evaluating the workplace, according to survey results. Forty-eight percent say their pay and benefits are fair for what they do. Another third of participants say their pay and benefits are good when compared to others in the industry.

Manifest Solutions has a number of practices designed to create a positive work environment, Deken says. It empowers its recruiters to serve as liaisons to employees throughout their tenure so they always have someone who can answer questions or address concerns.

Annual reviews are completed in a timely fashion so employees know how they're progressing in their careers. The company hosts a "State of the Union" dinner where employees are given an overview of what's happening at the company. The company also provides a great deal of training, Deken says.

"It has an impact-measuring it is always the challenge," he says. "We're very sincere about creating an environment where everybody can learn."

The executive team at Riverside Radiology also puts a lot of focus on creating a top-notch work culture, says Marcia Flaherty, CEO. The Columbus-based diagnostic and interventional imaging company puts efforts into recognizing employees for their good work, creating work-life balance and developing a family-like environment, she says. The company also looks for way to use technology to increase efficiencies.

Employees who participated in the Top Workplaces survey praised the company for offering great pay and benefits, hiring quality managers and providing a flexible work environment. "I can think outside the box instead of being micromanaged, which allows me to be more creative," wrote one employee. "I feel that my director/manager does an amazing job in making me feel valued."

The organization is committed to taking care people-patients and employees, Flaherty says. Managers put in the effort to create the right work environment.

In turn, employees are dedicated to providing quality care to patients, which inspires the leadership team, she says. "The people here are focused on what they need to do to best take care of patients," she says. "What they do really drives us to support them."
