NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey woman who claimed she was mistaken for a hooker and beaten by prostitutes at a luxury Miami Beach hotel has settled her lawsuit against the hotel's owner.
Anna Burgese (burr-GAY'-zee) alleged she was attacked in the lobby of South Beach's W Hotel in January 2013 by prostitutes who saw her as competition.
The suit against Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide claimed Burgese was attacked from behind and slammed into a wall, then thrown to the ground. It also claims hotel staff helped the attackers escape by putting them in a taxi, and that the hotel failed to take precautions after previous violent episodes.
A notice of the settlement was filed this week.
Burgese's lawyer didn't comment, citing a confidentiality agreement. A spokesman for Starwood didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
