John H. Edwards (Lt. Col. USAF Ret.), passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Miami Valley Hospital.

He was born October 2, 1935 in Queens, New York. John was in the Air Force for 22 years. During his early years in the Air Force he was an Electronic Warfare Officer on B-52s and AC-130s. Near the end of his career in the Air Force he worked on programming simulators and navigation pods. After John retired he continued his programming work as a contractor for many years.

His hobbies included working with electronics, woodworking and computer programming. John built the family’s color TVs in the early days of color as well as his first computer when they started coming into existence. He purchased one of the first Macintosh computers and was a Mac man for the rest of his life. His woodworking created many beautiful items which will be greatly treasured by the family.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Henry Edwards; and his brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Beverly Edwards.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Valerie A. Edwards; daughters, Amy (Rich) Daquila, Karen Edwards, and Susan Danahy; grandson, Ian Danahy; nephews, Bruce (Kerry) Edwards, and Robin Edwards; great-niece, Geri Edwards; and many other relatives and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Marker & Heller Funeral Home, Huber Heights Chapel, 5844 Old Troy Pike. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any charity helping animals in John’s memory.
