The Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust held its fourth annual Dog Days of Summer on Aug. 18 in downtown Kent at Hometown Bank Plaza.

Except for a 10-minute shower, it was a beautiful, sunny day and attracted a crowd estimated around 4,000 people and several hundred well-behaved dogs.

Highlights of the day included the Eddye & Bill White Strut Your Mutt parade and the Buddy Sessions Top Dog contest, which was won by Sheldon Loomis.

Downtown was filled with vendors, veterinarians, adoption groups and food trucks. Four of the area’s top bands performed, and special guest for the day was WOIO Channel 19 meteorologist Samantha Roberts and her dog, Doppler. Emcee for the event was the voice of the Kent State Golden Flashes, Jeff Kurtz.

Dog Days raised more than $14,000 for the Trust to support its mission to aid animal causes in Portage County. Photos from the event, courtesy of EmiLee Hartman, Nicole Cunningham and Ken McGregor, are available for download at madonio-animal-trust.org.
