Even if it has faded from the headlines, I am still concerned about family separation happening to asylum-seekers and immigrants in our country. Reunifications are happening at a glacial pace and are accompanied by chaos and uncertainty for the families involved.

Yet, every day the children are separated from their parents, the lasting trauma is made worse. What is Sen. Brown doing to ensure that families are reunited quickly and transparently? What is he doing to reunite children with parents who have already been deported? What is he doing to make sure that reunited families are not indefinitely detained? Our treatment of immigrant families is a moral test for our country. Any government official not doing everything in their power to right the wrong of family separation and child detention is failing that test.

I am asking Sen. Brown not to fail. Don’t fail the children.
