The Portage Animal Protective League's annual "Paws to Celebrate" fund-raiser will take place at 5:30 p.m. April 21 at the American Legion Hall, 1945 Mogadore Road in Kent.
"Paws to Celebrate" allows APL supporters to gather and raise funds to help hundreds of abused, abandoned and injured animals taken in by the APL every year.
A silent auction, live auction, raffles, music, a buffet dinner and more also are part of the event. Auction items include four field box seats to a Cleveland Indians game; a week at a mountain home in Tennessee; VIP tickets to a Roger Daltrey concert; a football autographed by Cleveland Browns cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun; jewelry; art; wine baskets; other sports items and much more.
The "Change for Paw$: Cats vs. Dogs" contest also will be going on. Attendees are encouraged to empty their piggy banks, purses or wallets of spare change and bring that or dollars to put in bins labeled "Cat" or "Dog" to see if cat or dog lovers bring more change for APL animals. Cats won last year, and the total for both was more than $2,000.
Animals available for adoption also will be on hand. Reservations are $75 per person and are required. Sponsorship opportunities also are available. To make reservations, call the APL at 330-296-4022 or go online to www.portageapl.org.
Auction items still are being accepted, and items like gift certificates, baskets, sports items and more are needed. To donate an item, bring it to the APL at 8122 Infirmary Road in Shalersville by April 13.
