CUYAHOGA FALLS – Not many restaurants offer a view of the river, but Burntwood Tavern, 2291 Riverfront Parkway, has plenty of tables overlooking the Cuyahoga River as if flows past the former dam powerhouse.

"Burntwood Tavern is more than a restaurant," said Service Manger Matt James. "It's a destination spot for people."

Guests can sit and enjoy the beautiful view from the balconies and patio, he said. Some may spot a kayaker traveling past in warmer weather.

"We get a lot of requests for a window seat with a river view," James said.

A lot of work and thought went into the décor, he said. The original gear work that moved the dam’s water flow doors are in place over the bar.

"Guests enjoy the rustic atmosphere with hand blown glass and a beautiful view of the river," James said. "The energy here is the best in the city."

The lighting is designed by Christian Kalinyak, said Jen Leonard, marketing and events manager. The glass is hand blown by The Glass Asylum and can be seen above the bar, in the chandeliers and on the tables.

Reclaiming materials is a theme for Burntwood Tavern, James said.

"We utilized a barn from Pennsylvania to build the Cuyahoga Falls location," Leonard said.

Burntwood Tavern has been open in Cuyahoga Falls since 2013 and serves tavern-style food in a rustic atmosphere, James said.

The three areas of dining include the main dining room featuring a stone fireplace and seats 54 guests. The VIP room or second dining room, is used for special events such as rehearsal dinners, bridal showers and baby showers and seats 50 guests. The bar areas seats 78 guests. Four small balconies and a large patio with two fire pits offer different views of the river below.

From May through September, reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, James said. Guests enjoy a meal and then take in the scenery.

The Burntwood Tavern offers live musical entertainment every Friday all year around from 7 to 10 p.m. The groups play on the patio, weather permitting, or in the corner of the bar area.

One of the favorite food choices is the Burntwood Burger which consist of a fried egg, bacon, american cheese, hash brown patty, lettuce, tomato and pickles piled on a burger, he said.

"We have a great happy hour seven days a week from 3 to 6 p.m. with half off on flatbreads and appetizers," James said.

Some appetizers include white bean chicken chili, firecracker shrimp, tavern tater tots, zucchini fritters and more.

One of the favorites is a mix of tater tots and hash browns with three dipping sauces, James said.

On Thursdays the tavern offers $5 mules all day. Three signature cocktails are Moscow mule, Pour mule and Dark and Stormy mule.

On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a brunch and Bloody Mary bar.

In addition, Burntwood Tavern offers catering services from eight to 200 people.
