WEST SALEM — Charles Darrell and Ruby Dorean Adkins of West Salem celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 30, 2017.
To celebrate, there was an open house for family and friends at their home on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m.
On Nov. 30, 1957, at the home of Clyde and Ruby (Boatner) Smith in West Salem, their daughter, Ruby Dorean Smith, married Charles Darrell Adkins, son of Bayless and Carlie (Lewis) Adkins.
In the early years of marriage and Air Force transfers, Charles and Dorean had five children, Linda (Randy) Leasure, Jeffry (Donna) Adkins, Sandra Diane (Heather Randolph-Adkins) Adkins, Carolyn (Kenneth) Edwards (Feb. 17, 1963 to Jan. 15, 2016) and Kathy Adkins Alaura.
Charles and Dorean have seven grandchildren and a few grandchildren-in-law: Charles (Amy) Miller, Jonathan (Bethany) Edwards, Joshua (Rachael) Adkins, Tara Adkins, Julie (T.J.) Scott, Kristy Alaura and Kerry Alaura. The most recent addition to this Adkins bunch is Benjamin Lee Scott, born to Julie (Edwards) and T.J. Scott — their first great grandchild.
Charles retired from the United States Air Force in 1976 after 20 years of service and, in 1998, he retired from The Gerstenslager Co. after another 20 years of dedicated work. In 1999, Dorean retired from Frito Lay after 20 years of hard work.
