Eric Ebinger was sworn in Tuesday as the newest member of the New London Public Library Board of Trustees, replacing Keith Risner who recently resigned.

A graduate of New London High School and Penn State, Ebinger is a historian and author. He and his wife, Misty, a teacher in the New London Schools, live in the rural New London area.

The Board of Trustees meets at 5:15 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the library conference room, and all meetings are open to the public.

Boy and Girl Scouts and members of the American Legion Broome-Wood Post 292 recently conducted a Dignified Disposal of Unserviceable Flags at the Boy Scout Cabin in the Recreation Park.

A receptacle for worn, faded and/or torn American flags is located at the American Legion at 185 N. Main St. Flags will be disposed of at a similar ceremony.

The Red Cross is conducting a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. today, Oct. 12 at the Eagles at 29 Fir St.

Kids of all ages (and adults) are invited to the library for "Read for the Record" day, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 19. Stop in and read "Quackers" by Liz Wong and take part in after school activities related to the book.
