Jackson Nightingale, who will be a fifth-grader at Carlin Elementary School in Ravenna, was recognized as a regional winner in the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness statewide poster contest.

Jackson won a certificate from the National Weather Service and a backpack of prizes from the state offices and the partners that make up the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness. He submitted his poster while he was in fourth grade.

His poster reads, "When the siren cries and there’s dust in the sky, stop the play and get inside." It also lists items that you should have in an emergency, such as a flashlight, radio and first aid kit.

Jackson was the only student in Portage County to be recognized.

All posters will be available to view on the Ohio Committee for Severe Weather Awareness Web site: www.weathersafety.ohio.gov.
