Mrs. JoAnn Stikes of Ravenna sent me some community news and wanted to give a great big shout out to her grandchildren and other Ravenna students.

Amir Stikes Jenkins and classmate Randall Stewart are second place DECA, International Business Program winners at Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna. In March, they will go to Columbus to compete with other participants.

Amir Stikes Jenkins and classmates competed in a business class project at Ravenna High School receiving second place honors. We should all be so Godly proud of the accomplishments of our young people. There is so much bad news written and on television about young folks, well let’s tell off on the devil and share some of the good news that is happening around us every day!

Upper Room Ministries Church of God in Christ, 3090 S.R. 59 in Ravenna, will celebrate 15 years in the ministry with its Annual Church Anniversary Celebration at 4 p.m. March 18. The guest speaker will be Pastor George C. Austin Sr. of King of Kings Fellowship Church of God in Christ in Warren.

Pastor Austin is married to the lovely Annette P. Austin, who is also a gifted speaker and middle school teacher in Warren. Pastor Austin loves the Lord; the Lord is first in his life. As a born again Christian, Pastor Austin is a spiritual counselor, administrator and communicator. He is also gifted in the area of leadership, scheduling and organization.

For more information, call the church at 330-296-2178. All are welcome to come and be blessed with a word from the Lord. Elder Eddie L. Harris is the church Pastor.

I mentioned last month about a wonderful group named The Cocoon Makers, which since 2015 has been blessed by making bedrolls for the needy and the homeless. Here is more information:

The Lord has brought a new outreach to the group and they will be making quilts for the soon to be opened The Haven of Portage County. This will entail producing at least 65 new quilts by October. They will continue to donate to the Catholic Charities, Salvation Army, Center of Hope and other charitable groups. With the new outreach, the group is looking for more helpers to join and cut fabrics, operate sewing machines and other helpful tasks such as tying knots, sorting new donations and labeling and packing.

If the group gets enough help, they will be able to work two days a week instead of one. They understand that some people would love to help, but Wednesday doesn’t work out for them. The additional day would allow an opportunity for others to help. For questions about the Cocoon Makers, contact LindaSue Hall at 330-297-6368.

The King Kennedy Community Center would like to extend an invitation to the first-ever Dress to Skill event from noon to 3 p.m. March 28. The event includes Resume Enhancement, Email and Employee Document Help, Mock Interviews, Local Community Resources and Business Casual Clothing and Shoes.

They are looking forward to providing business casual attire year-round. The Center is located at 6660 Garfield Road in Ravenna. For additional information, contact Jalessa Caples at 330-296-9957.

Also, mark your calendar for April 7 when the King Kennedy Community Center will celebrate with its 40th Anniversary Open House from noon to 3 p.m. More information is to come.
