CIRCLEVILLE - Atwater Elementary School will be closed Thursday due to a water main break and the 24-hour boil alert that will go into effect as soon as repairs are completed.

City crews worked well into the night Wednesday trying to repair the broken main, which pumped thousands of gallons of water onto Atwater Avenue between Reber Avenue and Northridge Road.

About 11 p.m. Wednesday, officials made the call to completely shut down the water flow to the area, affecting the school as well as residents in that section of Atwater Avenue, along with those on Seyfert Avenue between Atwater and North Court Street and a few on Collins, according to Nathan Anderson, director of public utilities.

As soon as the pipe is repaired and water pressure is restored, residents will remain under a boil alert for tap water for at least 24 hours, Anderson said.
