DINNER IS IN THE MAIL: Blue Apron, HelloFresh and Plated send out ready-to-cook dinner kits to subscribers. It's the latest concept in online grocery delivery.

HOW IT WORKS: Subscribers decide which dishes they want to cook up. The kits arrive once a week and are filled with everything needed to whip up a meal, from the raw meat and fish to spices and vegetables.

WHAT DOES IT COST?: Between $10 and $15 a meal, depending on the company you sign up with. But you have to buy a certain amount of meals per shipment. Blue Apron starts at $59.94 for six meals.
